Safety tips1. Make sure you are dressed for the weather (for example if it's cold you should be wearing a winter coat, winter hat, mitts or gloves, scarf, and winter boots).
2. Give your self extra time to travel.
3. Expect delays in transit, taxi and other public transportation services
4. Bring a charged and working cell phone with you.
5. Tell you someone you trust where you are going and what time you expect to return
6. Have a back up plan should your first choice of transportation fail to arrive at your location.
7. If you can bring an extra bus ticket, and money to travel. (for example if the bus doesn't show up at least you have some money to take a taxi or another form of transportion to your destination).
8. Bring a snack and a non alcoholic drink with you- so in case you get hungry or thirsty while traveling you have something to eat and drink.
9. Bring something that can keep you calm and entertained while your travelling (For example: IPod, book, MP3 player, e-reader or tablet).
10. Listen and follow the driver's (or in the case of planes- pilots, and stewardess) instructions.

11. If it is possible to wait for your bus, c-train or taxi inside a building go inside to wait.
12. Be patient and polite to your driver. They are working hard to keep you safe.

In case you need a taxi and can't get through the phone lines there are alternative ways to book. Some require a bit of planning ahead, and some do charge.

If you need to find an available cab right away you can press #TAXI on your cell phone. The person on the other end of the line will connect you to the next available cab company Just be aware that usually cell phone companies will charge you for using this service on your next phone bill. For example: Chatr charges $2.00 for customers who use this service.
*Note: If you need a wheelchair accessible taxi, there is now a centralized number created by the city of Calgary, for you to call. They will provide you with the next available accessible cab. Uber : Is a brand new ride offered in Calgary and Edmonton. Because it's not a taxi I do encourage people to find out the difference between Uber and taxi's before they make the decision to ride with one of Uber's drivers. Calgary Transit Email alerts
Calgary Transit has an email alert program that can let you know about their delays and detours ahead of time so that you won't be stuck waiting for transit. It can also remind you to buy the bus pass. They send the alert to your email address. To apply for the email alert system please go to:

1) Using Google Maps you can find out what bus and c-train to take, what time the bus and c-train are arriving at your stop, and what time the bus and c-train are going to drop you off at your destination. To find out the transit info using Google Maps click on the button that looks like a train then type in your destination, and arrival address below.
